AFTER CARE
DAYS 1 – 2
Congratulations on your new tattoo, it looks sick! Now you have to take care of it so that it has the best conditions to heal properly. It should be wrapped, which should stay on for 36-48 hrs. If it’s not wrapped, you must be careful to keep it clean and protected from any contaminants. The first few days are crucial not to allow any bacteria into your fresh tattoo, it is an open wound. Do not apply too much moisturizer, if any, these first few days, to allow the skin to close properly.
DAYS 3 – 6
After the first few days you may remove the wrap in the shower, giving it a wash to remove any bacteria, plasma, and dead skin. At this point your tattoo may begin to scab over, feel dry and itchy, and the skin may feel tight. Apply thin layers of moisturizer every few hours and keep clean throughout the day. Do not itch or pick away any scabs or the skin as it heals.
DAYS 7 – 10
After about a week, the skin is beginning to heal over and your tattoo should be less itchy and scabby. Some lines may still be closing, the heavier black areas may be shiny, and it may still itch. Continue to apply moisturizer when needed and keep clean and out of the sun. If areas are still looking irritated or the skin is not closing, reach out to your artist for further instructions.
DAYS 11 +
The skin takes up to 30 days to fully heal, based on how big the area tattooed, the part of the body, and different skin types. Moisturizers like lotion, aloe, shea butter, and jojoba oil are great for the skin. Try to avoid products containing petroleum, like Vaseline and Aquaphor, as these can block pores and increase risk of infection.
